Michael Simmons a polymath, is one of my favorite writers on Medium and his column Accelerated Intelligence has great pieces on why he believes polymaths and generalists such as Bill Gates, Elon Musk, Warren Buffett, Ray Dalio are dominating in business and the modern knowledge economy even though consensus has it that specialization is better (the internet and digital technologies such as the smartphone, big data and artificial intelligence are changing and disrupting the pace of all industries at an unprecedented speed and the half life of knowledge is shrinking rapidly as the internet demonetizes and democratizes information).
He also has great pieces on learning how to learn (such as by forming better mental models and teaching what you learn) and synthesizing information from different domains and leveraging the vast information on the internet to gain actionable life gems, wisdom and business intelligence to build better mental models and make better decisions for the short-term and for the long-term.
