The problem isn’t other Americans. It’s a system that makes us hate and fear other Americans. @Fwd_Party
Too much of media coverage today is “Did I catch someone doing something I can cast as damnable?” Most people are tired of it - and it solves nothing.
You can disagree with someone and still think they are as valuable and worthwhile as you are. @Fwd_Party
One upside to being an Independent - when someone starts talking negatively about one party or the other you just say “I’m an Independent!”
Anyone who wants to give alternatives to the duopoly a real chance to compete - and a more resilient, representative democracy - should be for open primaries and ranked choice voting. @Fwd_Party
I’m going to write a thread with some thoughts on the duopoly. First, it was not in the founding design of the country. Washington warned against parties. John Adams too. Madison famously warned of static factions that would not shift but instead would clash and clash.
We are stuck in a doom loop with more and more Americans getting angrier and more hateful and resentful while our system refuses to change . . . why? Because we are told things can’t change.
There really are only two likely outcomes: our country devolves into Civil War or our democracy evolves and advances. If you’d prefer the latter please join us at @Fwd_Party for open primaries. 62% of Americans want to move on from the duopoly. We know a change is necessary.
“The problem is not who is in power but the structures of power. The US system is an archaic mode of government totally unsuited to the realities of the 21st century. It needs reforms to its foundational systems, not just new faces.” - @StephenMarche
We are heading toward the sequel that no one wants - thanks to a decrepit dysfunctional two-party system that doesn’t reflect the will of the majority of Americans. That’s what needs to change. @Fwd_Party
I’m thrilled to announce my new book FORWARD, coming Oct. 5! It’s about the broken machinery of our democracy, misaligned political incentives and a path forward. I wrote it after the presidential campaign and it feels even more relevant today. Preorder: penguinrandomhouse.com/books/667341/f…
“We are at pre-Civil War levels of animosity . .the political stress index incorporates income and wealth inequality, wage stagnation, national debt, competition between elites, distrust in government, social mobility . . and other factors that lead to instability and conflict.”
When you're ready to take the leap, join us in supporting voting reforms. ⬆️🇺🇸
"The #duopoly, unfortunately, is going to maintain extremity and polarization - essentially until we make a fix. Change the system." - @AndrewYang

If I had the power I’d turn off all social media apps one day a week (probably Sundays) so that people might visit their neighbors and experience/remember what life was like before ~2004.
The automation of our cognition and the predictive power of technology to monetize our behavior, indeed our very thinking, is transforming not only our societies and discourse with one another, but also our very neurochemistry.
