In a '96 Wired interview Steve Jobs said the web was interesting because 1) it'll be ubiquitous 2) Microsoft won't figure out a way to own it. It feels like the same can be said about web3 today—it will be ubiquitous—and Google/Facebook won't figure out a way to own it.
